Hatha Yoga

Hatha means the balance between body and mind. This balance is reflected in the universe (see table above).

Hatha yoga is made up of 3 elements:

  • Asana - postures
  • Pranayama - breathing control
  • Shat Karma/Shuddhi Kriya - Cleansing techniques
    1. Neti - nasal cleansing
    2. Dhouti - master cleansing
    3. Busti - enema (soap or plain water)
    4. Nouli - abdominal massage (uddiyana bhanda)
    5. Kapalbhati - forceful exhalation
    6. Trataka - concentrating on a point till tears flow
